I absolutely love this project and Kirsty Mitchell’s work. Being a set/prop designer and fabricator for photo shoots I am in complete awe and I have seen a lot in my travels. The pure creative imagery is lush and endless. Kirtsy layers and layers and layers with such sweet detail it leaves you craving more. It is deliciousness and so satisfying.
Kirsty is a real storyteller without words. I love that she transmuted the loss and pain of losing her mother into such a rich documentation of deep love and wonderment. Kristy is a gifted alchemist. Celebrating her mother’s love of stories and storytelling. Kristy writes this about her mother-“She was an English teacher, and read to me almost everyday, to an age I could no longer admit to my friends. She instilled in me the most precious gift a mother could, her imagination and a belief in beauty, it became my root, and the place I constantly try to return to in my work, and my dreams.”
I’m so thankful that my friend, Tracey, shared this work with me, so that I could pass the torch and share with you. Please please check out Kristy’s site and some of her photos below. This work and the book – Wonderland has been five years in the making…

One of my favorite local Park Slope restaurants is Talde, by Chef Dale Talde. Some may remember him from Top Chef two seasons ago. Dale’s a sweet young looking guy who can often be spotted there organizing the orders. He’s got a really warm vibe about him it’s hard not to go up and hug him.
Yesterday Talde finally opened up in Jersey City, so exciting. I can’t wait to go! This location is bigger and offers more dim sum dishes. Chef Dale is particularly excited about a series of bao (steamed and stuffed Chinese buns) inspired by favorite fast food offerings, including Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich and the McDonald’s McRib, made with slow-roasted boneless spare ribs. Of course the favorites- pretzel dumplings, korean fried chicken and bacon pad thai are on the JC menu.
Talde partnered up with David Massoni, John Bush and “Kitchen Cousins” stars Anthony Carraino and John Colaneri. The new Talde is located in a late 1800’s building that Anthony’s father owns. The building was originally a telephone switching station then was home to the Jersey City Police Dept.
Talde JC’s decor is industrial chic with some fun Asian accents. The building also has a courtyard that will be open for dining in the warmer months. Besides Talde (which is on one side of the building) the team put in an Italian Market and Eatery called Carrino Provisions. Looking forward to trying that out as well!

What a moon! Some say the best full moon of the year! This big Leo Moon wants you to take center stage, to show your creativity, your child like essence of pure fun and love. Jupiter is conjunct the Moon and Uranus trines the Moon. There are some feelings of stage fright and fear of failure (with the Capricorn Pluto/Pisces Chiron Yod aspect). You just want to shine and roar from the rooftops while being afraid of falling on your face!
Take a big leap of faith with your heart. You can make positive changes in your life now, new friends and/or loves that encourage you to be your true self. What are your inner deepest desires? This Moon asks you to own up to you without doubt instead try authentic self-expression and love.
